Learning Content:

This evening session will address the new radiography IRMER17 regulations clarifying how they can be integrated into the important aspects of record keeping.

The meeting will be tailored to the needs of dentists and all other members of the dental team in relation to radiography and quality assurance in practice. It will be firstly didactic in nature followed by a question and answer session focusing particularly on technique problems faced in practice.

Barbara Lamb qualified as a general radiographer 1974 and, since then, has worked exclusively as a specialised radiographer in the dental field. From 1974 to 1979 Barbara was employed in Glasgow Dental Hospital as a radiographer.  She then worked as a single handed radiographer in dental practice from 1982 to 1998 before returning to work at Glasgow Dental Hospital from 1998 to 2008.   Since becoming self-employed in 2008, Barbara has specialised in delivering CPD on all aspects of IRMER, covering all parts of the UK giving practical based workshops and lectures as well as delivering courses which qualify dental nurses to take radiographs. All courses are tailored to the needs of dental team working in general dental practice, community dental services and hospital dentistry settings.

The aims of this course are to:

  • Increase the dental team’s understanding of IRMER and how it relates to each of its members, particularly in general practice
  • Increase the confidence of the dental team when taking digital radiographs by introducing day to day quality assurance
  • Provide hints and tips to improve the positioning of intra and extra oral radiographs for patients who present with challenges and offer guidance on how to overcome them

At the end of the course the Dental Team will:

  • Have more understanding of how new IRMER can be integrated into day to day record keeping
  • Be able to utilise daily Quality Assurance (QA) procedures to identify excellent radiographic image quality thus ensuring optimal radiographic digital sensor processing
  • Be more confident in dealing with patients presenting with technical radiographic challenges and to have increased knowledge of positioning for intra and extra oral radiographic films
