What we do

Greater Glasgow & Clyde Local Dental Committee (LDC) consists of 30 elected dentists from across Greater Glasgow and Clyde, whose role is to represent the professional interests of their colleagues.

The LDC representatives are elected on a three-yearly cycle and are grouped into 4 areas:

Renfrewshire & Inverclyde, Glasgow North, Glasgow South, Dunbartonshire; their numbers broadly reflect the number of dentists practising within these geographical boundaries.

The LDC is concerned with dental issues which pertain to pay and conditions, pensions and workforce. We are fortunate in Glasgow and Clyde to have several committee members who also sit on the national representative body of non-salaried general dental practitioners – the Scottish Dental Practice Committee (SDPC). The LDC forum gives us a good insight into local and Scottish issues, as well as those in the rest of the UK.

Membership of the LDC automatically confers membership of the General Practitioners’ Sub-Committee of the Area Dental Committee (commonly known as ‘the GP-Sub’). The remit of the GP-Sub is to give advice to the NHS Board (via the Area Dental Committee) on behalf of non-salaried general dental practitioners.

We also engage closely with the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Oral Health Directorate over issues affecting the delivery of dental care: patient referrals, decontamination, audit, practice inspections, patients’ treatment appeals and the out-of-hours emergency service.

Meetings are held on the first Monday of the month at JB Russell House, Gartnavel Royal Hospital, G12 0XH. Meetings are open to any represented dentist to attend and observe. If you wish to attend, please contact either the General Secretary or the Dental Secretary in advance.

Complete the voluntary mandate and you can access the full service provided by Greater Glasgow and Clyde LDC.
