New GDC Consultation
07 October 2015
The General Dental Council has launched a new consultation on the annual retention fee (ARF) suggesting a freeze in the current rates. The BDA has criticised the consultation, pointing out that they defeated the GDC in the High Court last year.
The action concerned a flawed fees consultation which led to the current rates being raised by 55%, although the court subsequently refused to reverse the fee rise.
A BDA press release stated “The GDC remains the most expensive healthcare regulator in the UK – at £890 its annual retention fee is more than twice the average professional fee – and it was recently identified as the worst performing regulator by the Professional Standards Authority in its Annual Performance Review.”
