GP Sub Committee (and Local Dental Committee) Elections 2018

All dentists with a Greater Glasgow and Clyde list number should now have received nomination papers for the ‘GP Sub-Committee (GPSC or GP Sub) of the Area Dental Committee’ and ‘Local Dental Committee (LDC)’ election. It details those representatives coming to the end of their three-year term and any additional vacant seats. If you are considering getting involved with the committees please read the information below.

What is expected of committee members?

Elected representatives will be expected to sit on the following two committees which meet consecutively on the first Monday evening of each month:

GP SUB: This committee is formed of GDPs and meets with representatives from the Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Board’s Oral Health Directorate management team. The Oral Health Directorate team will report on a broad range of issues that may affect local dentists and seeks to work with the committee to address any concerns raised by the LDC and the GDP constituents they represent. This group then feeds into the ‘Area Dental Committee’ where representatives from the PDS and Secondary care are also in attendance.

LDC: Membership of the GP Sub-Committee also confers membership of the ‘Local Dental Committee.’ This committee consists solely of GDPs, debating and voting on how to approach the broad range of issues that can affect the dentists we represent. These issues are then raised with GPSC or any of the various national committees where we have representation, including those that negotiate directly with Scottish Government. Greater Glasgow and Clyde LDC also takes particular pride in the close involvement we have with the GDPs we represent by providing regular CPD events, news, advice and support.

What benefits are there to being on the committees?

  • You will be able to represent your own concerns and those of your colleagues
  • You will remain up to date and informed of the key issues affecting GDPs
  • You will be reimbursed for your time at the GPSC meetings by the NHS Board, at Dental Guild Rate.
  • You will not lose surgery time as meetings take place in the evening
  • You will join a local network of highly experienced and knowledgeable peers
  • You will have an extra notch on your CV

If you wish to stand for election, please complete the nomination papers that arrived at your postal address (proposed and seconded by GDP colleagues with list numbers in your constituency) and return to the General Secretary, by post, before 16/02/2018. If you are unsure which constituency your practice is in, please click here to check. Any dentist with a list number in Greater Glasgow and Clyde can be nominated, and all representatives are expected to have completed a voluntary levy mandate (see link below for more info on mandates).

If you aren’t yet ready to dip your toes into dental politics as a representative, you can still show your support by completing a voluntary levy mandate here.
